Michael Harrison is an active mediator and arbitrator after having served as a circuit judge for the Ingham County Circuit Court for nearly twenty-five years where he handled complex cases including construction, environmental, employment, commercial, malpractice and personal injury claims. Because the Ingham Circuit is the Court of Claims for Michigan, he has had extensive experience in governmental actions. He was Chief Judge for almost twelve years. He now focuses exclusively on mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Harrison is listed in the 2013 edition of "Marquis Who's Who in America", "Who's Who in American Law" and in the "Best Lawyers of America."Mr. Harrison is certified under the rules of the Michigan Supreme Court as a mediator in numerous Michigan counties. He is a member of the Facilitative Mediation panel for the Western District of Michigan and is included in Judge Lawson's mediation list in the Eastern District. He is an approved Neutral on the American Arbitration Association's AAA Commercial Panel of Arbitrators. He is also a member of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, the ADR Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the ABA (where he served as vice-chair), and the ADR Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Additional ABA activities include the Fund for Justice and Education Council, and the Litigation Section Task Force on Civil Discovery Standards. Mr. Harrison's judicial activities included president of the Michigan Judges Association, chair of the ABA National Conference of State Trial Judges and recipient of the Award of Judicial Excellence. He was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court as chair of the Case Flow Management Coordinating Committee, a member of the Sentencing Guidelines Steering Committee and the Task Force on Juror Use and Management. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and was Foundation President for nine years.
