I joined the NRC in 1995. Throughout my NRC career I have held a number of positions that include Reactor Health Physics Inspector, Resident Inspector at Cooper Nuclear Station, Senior Resident Inspector at Waterford Steam Electric Station, Senior Project Engineer, and a number of Branch Chief positions. In 2007 became a Branch Chief and have held a number of positions overseeing inspection and licensing activities involving both operating reactors and civilian uses of nuclear material. Highlights of my career included being the Chief in charge of nuclear oversight at the Fort Calhoun Station that was under the IMC 0350 Process. Following the tsunami that impacted the Fukushima nuclear plants in Japan, I was one of the initial groups of NRC staff sent to Japan to provide assistance and spent approximately 3 months providing support. In 2018 I was selected into the Federal Government Senior Executive Service. Currently I am the Deputy Director, Division of Operating Reactor Safety in the USNRC Region IV Office, located in Arlington, Texas.Prior to joining the NRC, I served in the Navy Nuclear Power Program and served onboard the USS Albuquerque and was a nuclear instructor at the Idaho National Laboratory Naval Facility.I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Idaho State University, and a Masters in Science/Health Physics, from Texas A&M University.
