In this role I have had the privilege to be accountable for Meridian and Powershop marketing (inc. media and advertising), emerging markets and innovation, customer experience, portfolio and product management, data driven marketing (including technology and automation), marketing operations and transformation, and internal creative capability.During my tenure the team has delivered significant pieces of transformational work supporting retail strategy including media econometrics, brand refresh, brand platform development and launch, exiting of ineffective partnerships, and renegotiation of contracts.I also established Meridian’s talented Data Driven Marketing team - including selection and implementation of market leading marketing technology platforms for competitive advantage, improved customer experience, and operational savings from automation and retirement of redundant technology.In 2019 the Marketing team identified the opportunity for, then led the development, productisation, and launch of Meridian Certified Renewable Energy as a new revenue stream for the Meridian brand – contracted revenues after two years exceed $5,000,000 to be reinvested into decarbonisation programs.In this role I also had the opportunity to lead the development, Board endorsement and operational readiness of Meridian’s Certified Renewable Charging Network – Zero – entering Meridian into EV charging (www.zerocharging.co.nz) After growing Meridian’s amazing marketing team into arguably the most awarded marketing operation in New Zealand – with 13 marketing award wins, and a further 33 finalists across all disciplines / segments in 2020 alone - I was honoured to be a finalist for New Zealand’s Marketer of the Year.
Head Of Group Media, Sponsorship, Events, Agencies, Digital And Social Media
In this role I led 40+ people to deliver these functional portfolios across the Westpac Group in Australia.Leading the Sponsorship and Events across properties such as Westpac Rescue Helicopters, Westpac / Fairfax City2 series, Open Air Cinema, eSports League, GWS Giants, Queensland Reds, St.George Dragons, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Royal Show, Port Adelaide Power, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, amongst others to provide improved business returns.Leading the Media team developed a bespoke media agency model known as Media Lab that uses media science to lower cost per acquisition, improve efficiency and generate outcomes - while providing an engaged agency team delivering the future of media today, under a transparent media contract.Leading the Social team to improve customer service with lower time to serve and significantly improved engagement metrics. Developed strategies to improve reach, find new ways to assist customers during technical challenges, and oversaw development and implementation of the Group’s highest reach campaigns. Implemented a social centre of excellence.Leading the Digital Performance and Programmatic Sales team drove significant improvements in media efficiency and understanding. Structured for a dramatic improvement in performance and display innovation including onsite scoring capability. Co-led governance of Double Click AdServing capability across the Group brands.Leading Agency team to improve retainer and utilisation efficiency, providing savings through removal of duplicated capability and developing future ready contracts to ensure performance and flexibility.I’m also the key client contact for the Map & Page PR team and have integrated them into the broader team to develop more connected go-to-market plans for campaigns and activities, deeper understanding of the Westpac business, contributed to the building of capability and assisted with prioritisation and commercial return with that embedded team.
Head Of Brand And Marketing
As Head of Brand and Marketing for BankSA I led the Marketing functions for the brand alongside the BankSA CEO, Westpac Group CMO and BankSA Leadership Team to rebuild the iconic BankSA brand.Key deliverables, amongst others, included leadership of the Marketing function, strategic realignment of sponsorship properties, greater commercial focus, talent development and a new (widely recognised and awarded) campaign known as Piping Shrike to bring consistency to communications.Across three years of work the brand has returned to #1 in consideration, seen brand measures return to positive trending after a decade of decline and built deep marketing capability. Working closely with the General Managers of Retail, Commercial and SME Banking has generated consistently positive customer and revenue growth.The BankSA brand health clearly indicates a bright future for this iconic brand.This role was carried out concurrently to Head of Group Media, Sponsorship, Events, Agencies, Digital and Social Media functional role.
