H. M. Heise studied chemistry, physics and mathematics at the University in Kiel (Germany) where he received his PhD in 1976. He has been research associate at the Universities in Kiel and Perth (Western Australia) and research fellow at the Federal Biological Research Centre and the Federal Research Centre for Physics and Technology, both in Braunschweig (Germany). Since 1982 he has been working at the Leibniz-Institute for Analytical Sciences – ISAS at Dortmund University of Technology, formerly known as Institute for Spectrochemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (ISAS). He is honorary professor of the University of Applied Sciences of South-Westphalia in Iserlohn (Germany). Current research interests are in vibrational spectroscopy and chemometrics with applications for clinical chemistry and medical diagnostics, material analysis, gas analysis including atmospheric monitoring.He has more than 185 publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings including book chapters and two text books on vibrational spectroscopy. He has presented more than 300 lectures and posters at international and national conferences, Universities and research institutions world wide with many invited talks and plenary lectures.
