Michael’s passion is for sustainability, conservation and nature. As the world progressively moves forward, he wants to play an active role in mitigating current problems with novel and sustainable solutions, so that humans and nature can both thrive. Michael is currently the Project Manager for Blue Carbon Seascapes (BCS) at the Australian institute of Marine Science (AIMS). BCS is a large scale program involving a host of projects and passionate and bright scientists researching nature based solutions to mitigating climate change. Specifically, blue carbon processes in the North West of Western Australia, looking to address key knowledge gaps in the understanding of the role of sargassum seaweeds and its potential in carbon sequestration, as well as ways to enhance this mechanism. Before joining AIMS, Michael was a senior marine scientist at RPS, working as a consultant, and managing a broad range of marine projects, including experience in the renewables sector with offshore wind as this technology gains traction in the Asia-Pacific region. Michael has extensive marine science experience (> 10 years) having worked and studied in New Zealand/Aotearoa, South Africa, and Australia. This experience extends across industries, as a university researcher, industry consultant and now working for federal government.His university education includes a Masters of Science (Distinction) from the University of Otago (Marine Science), where he was awarded a scholarship based on academic merit.
