I am a full time General Paediatrician at Whakatane Hospital. Initially I started at Whakatane as a locum Paediatrician, but I have been on a fixed term contract from January 2021, then a permanent staff member from January 2022. From March 2022 I have been the "Clinical Lead" for Whakatane Paediatrics (I do the roster and answer many questions from anyone who asks!!). I am blessed to work with amazing people on our team including the Emergency Department, the Ward nurses and SCBU Nurses, the Acute Care Unit nurses and our Paediatricians. My ambition for Whakatane is to attract great people who want to be a part of the local community so that they can help our patients to achieve their potential. Please see my posts for more details. Break A Leg Ltd provides locum Paediatric services in NZ and Australia.

I did some private clinic work at Marina Specialists. Many of my patients had ADHD, but there were a wide range of other medical and developmental problems. I also met some families who were non-resident and did not have free access to the NZ publicly funded health system. I have reluctantly stopped this clinic as my work at Whakatane has become more demanding of my time.

I am no longer frequently locuming as I am full time at Whakatane Hospital.

I enjoyed a 12 month contract as a general paediatrician at Starship. I saw many children in outpatients with medical and developmental disorders. I also led the general paediatric ward round whilst on acute call.

I was a Paediatrician at Waitakere Hospital. My duties included the Special Care Baby Unit, Paediatric Emergency, Rangatira (paediatric inpatient) Ward and Paediatric Outpatients. I assisted with 5th Year Medical Student teaching and coordinating the teaching activities within the Paediatric Department.

Coordinate and provide Paediatric teaching for 5th Year Medical students. This is an unpaid honorary position whilst I have been at Waitakere Hospital.

Paediatric Registrar working in the Paediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU) and Outpatient clinics.

Management of Paediatric SHOs and Registrars combined with Advanced training position in General Paediatrics.

Lead ward rounds and supervise Paediatric Registrars in the Paediatric ward, Paediatric Outpatients, Special Care Baby Unit and Emergency Department. Conduct clinical research and coordinate teaching of 5th Year Medical students.

Registrar in Level III Neonatal Intensive Care.

From 2004 to 2010 I was a Paediatric Registrar working mainly in Auckland. I did my FRACP examinations in 2006 (written and clinical), and from then I was an Advanced Trainee in General Paediatrics. From December 2007 to July 2010 I was doing locum work in Australia, Ireland and the UK. I had a working holiday with my family as we lived in Athlone, Ireland. This was a useful period as I saw that my training in NZ was definitely up to the standard required in other countries. There was also a very difficult period due to a family member developing cancer and passing away in late 2010.

My first two postgraduate years as a House Officer and SHO were at Whangarei Hospital (Urology/General Surgery, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Medical and Surgical SHO Reliever). In November 2001 I started my first SHO job in the Emergency Department at Starship Children's Hospital. Over the next two years I had a range of positions in Paediatrics and Adult Medicine whilst waiting for a Paediatric Registrar post.
