Our previous prototype designs for this type of system were large, bulky, and consisted of a substantial number of parts. Mike was given the task of creating a new version of the system and was able to reduce the parts count by over an order of magnitude, shrinking the product size to less than half its original volume. In creating this new design Mike was also able to double the collection performance of the system and achieve a spatial concentration previously thought to be unattainable for the technology. This achievement is particularly impressive as his training is not in electrostatic precipitation. He has shown similar ability to work outside of his training in his work on our polymerase chain reaction identifiers, and our core liquid based air samplers.
