Michael Herzig, CFA – General PartnerMichael Herzig founded Gardenia Global Advisors L.P. in 2007, to serve as the sole advisor to the Gardenia Relative Value Fund LLC, a global long/short equity investment strategy. A second fund, the Gardenia Japan Opportunity Fund LP, launched in January 2013. He was also an original member of Rosehill Capital Management LLC (‘95-‘96), a Japan focused hedge fund. Prior to forming Gardenia, Mr. Herzig was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch.The Gardenia Relative Value Fund LLC pursues a global fundamental long/short equity strategy with a focus on Japan and the U.S. The Fund employs a relative value approach and makes an investment only after developing a full understanding of the macroeconomic backdrop and both absolute and relative valuation of a security in a global context. A diversified portfolio is constructed largely within four sectors: Consumer, Financial, Industrial, and Technology. The Fund manages portfolio risk on the basis of geography, sector, size, liquidity, and the volatility of each position. Gardenia's investment objectives are to generate a double-digit compounded RoR with low volatility compared to global indices over an investment cycle.The Gardenia Japan Opportunity Fund L.P. launched in January 2013. The Fund employs a fundamental long/short equity strategy with a focus on Japanese equity. After a 22 year bear phase, Gardenia believes that some of the most compelling investments and valuation inefficiencies on a global basis reside in the Japanese stock market.
