Advanced Composition—ESL (2 Sections)Using the English language, emphasizes developmental activities in essay organization, outlining, essay writing, editing and punctuation, and research paper writing. Includes lectures, small and large group activities, peer editing, and lab activities.Reading Level III—ESL (2 Sections) Studies high-intermediate vocabulary, word attack skills, English dictionary usage, and comprehension skills. Encourages reading for pleasure and for information. Practices academic and job-related reading skills. Emphasizes extensive reading.English 0890: Basic Reading and Writing I (3 Sections)Teaches students to approach writing with a social constructivist perspective by emphasizing the need for planning, drafting, writing, and peer-reviewing both written and visual texts. The course is a five-credit hour class with face-to-face, online, and computer lab components. In addition to the traditional model of mostly face-to-face interaction, two sections of English 0890 were taught as multi-day hybrid classes in which students complete assignments and participate in discussions through online lesson modules and other various technologies. English 0990: Basic Reading and Writing II (3 Sections)Further explores ways in which students can continue to view writing as socially constructed. English 0990 attempts to bridge the gap between personal and academic writing by placing important emphasis on the rhetorical situation of particular writing events. As such, students learn how to ask questions about audience, purpose, and context as they plan, research, write, and assess.
