For almost 20 years I have pursued a passion for inquiry-based, student focused learning. I began my career in Australia with the aspiration of making a difference in the lives of young people. It has been a privillage to build incredible relationships with so many students over the years and learn and grow with them. In moving to the Netherlands I have been inspired all over again through teaching in an IB World School, and experiencing the richness of so many cultures in one class room. It has also been amazing to teach, and, as MYP Coordinator, lead such a progressive educational framework. If I could summerise what an IB education is in two words it would be "collaborative inquiry", and this is where I believe the future of education resides. In a globalised and increasing complex world we need more from education than simply knowledge and content, and, while the IB Middle Years Program holds knowledge to be important, it goes further and provides students with skills, traits and ways of thinking that are transferable and enduring. At the International School Wassenaar I am surrounding by inspiring staff who have this shared vision of educating students to be internationally minded, caring, and open minded.Other ExperienceBeyond my professional teaching career I have had many diverse experiences that have added added a rich dimension to my teaching practice and my understanding of international education. In 2013 my wife, daughter (2) and I cycled 4000km from Barcelona to the Baltic. We did this to raise money for a charity called “Clinica Verde” that provides pre and post natal care for mothers and their babies in a remote region of Nicaragua. We blogged about our journey at: www.babyonabike.com. In addition to this I have travelled to over 50 different countries. Highlights of these experiences include: working on an archaeological dig in southern Israel; riding a bicycle 6000km from London to Jerusalem; more than a year and a half experience in South and Central America where I learnt Spanish, involved myself in voluntary work, travelled extensively through the Amazon, hiked to Machu Picchu and explored the many other ruins and natural wonders that scatter Latin America.
