Michael Hite Work Experience Details
  • Ayuda Medical
    Chief Executive Officer
Ayuda Medical Nov 2017 - Present
Ayuda Medical is developing a medical wearable to prevent fatal drug overdose. The ARMband is a small disccret band that will detect signs of potentially life-threatening overdose. The ARMband is designed with on-board logic as a stand alone device -- no internet connection is required -- enabling patients to be protected at home, at work, and when out with friends. In the event of an overdose, the ARMband alarms, gives instructions to bystanders, and sends text and phone alerts to designated contacts. The ARMband isn't a remote patient-monitor, it's only activated in the event of an overdose -- it does not capturing unnecessary data or track location -- but it's always there if patients need help, even when they're alone. We believe that everyone should have access to overdose prevention resources. We are committed to ensuring the ARMband is brought to market as an affordable medical device, accessible and available to all patients.Anyone who is exposed to opiates can be at risk of an overdose, especially in combination with other sedating medications. The risk of overdose has increased significantly in recent years due to the potent opioid fentanyl, and emergence of fentanyl-sedative combinations, such as fentanyl-xylazine. Sedatives such as xylazine complicate overdose response because they extend the effects of opioids, and do not respond to naloxone (Narcan) in the same way as opioids alone. Many times the effects of fentanyl-xylazine overdoses are nearly instantaneous, requiring immediate medical response, but in other cases, occur hours later. The need for a wearable, inexpensive overdose alarm has never been greater.Ayuda is developing the ARMband in conjunction with an active NIH/NIDA Phase 2 SBIR grant. We greatly appreciate the work of everyone working at to improve the lives of people with Substance Use Disorders.
  • Impel Neuropharma
    Ceo
    Impel Neuropharma Jan 2008 - Nov 2016
Impel NeuroPharma is focused on developing transformative therapies for people living with central nervous system (CNS) disorders through the pioneering of an optimized approach to drug delivery: the Company’s proprietary upper nasal delivery technology, known as the Precision Olfactory Delivery (POD®) device, which we developed from the concept into the clinic during my time as CEO. The upper nasal space is surrounded by a rich vasculature that has the potential for injection-like absorption, resulting in more rapid and consistent bioavailability and clinical response. While an ideal target for drug delivery, to date no technology has been able to consistently deliver drugs predictably and consistently to the upper nasal area. We founded Impel with the goal of being the first company to successfully enable delivery to this region because of the value we believed it could bring to patients. I'm proud of the incredible team we built and the tremendous potential we demonstrated that is possible using the Impel platform. Impel has recently had a successful IPO (NASDAQ: IMPL) and is now awaiting FDA decision on their first product, TRUDHESA (intranasal dihydroergotamine mesylate). I'm excited for their success and for the future opportunities for "nose-to-brain" therapeutics that the technology will enable.
