I'm interested in:**Understanding and communicating ideas**I'm an experienced writer, researcher, speaker, designer and coder that’s spent a career telling stories and explaining complex systems in interesting, useful and beautiful ways.**Reinventing how business is done**I founded and ran Icelab, a boutique design and development studio, for 14 years. We designed, built and maintained interactive experiences for clients, mainly in the cultural and scientific sectors. Our purpose was to provide a good life for our people (while building cool things!) As part of that we worked a four-day week, and talking about that was a big part of the Icelab story.**Building our shared future**I am a bright green optimist, who thinks that we can build a better, kinder, cooler world together. I want to work with people who share that vision, who understand that it's an ongoing process of improvement and reinvention; that we can balance pragmatism with idealism; and that working on worthwhile projects with good people is one of life's enduring joys.My skills include research, communication design, storytelling, data analysis, data visualisation, collaboration, strategy, business thinking, and team building. I have been working professionally in the design/web/interactive/data visualisation and adjacent spaces for twenty years, so I am comfortable with most of the relevant software. I can also code in Python, Javascript, and Processing. I am not afraid of databases or spreadsheets and enjoy data wrangling. I have created and delivered innumerable pitch decks and presentations, and I am comfortable talking in any context – in person, on stage, or online, and at any level, from the C-suite to media to regular human beings.I'm interested in:- ecology, climate change, biodiversity- infrastructure, energy, urbanism, transport- improving our bodies and mindsI'm open to engagements of all sorts, from short-term project and consulting work to part- and full-time gigs.
