As operations manager at the University of Alberta’s Nanofabrication and Characterization Center (nanoFAB), one of the largest open access facilities in the country, I gained first hand knowledge of the complexities of managing shared resources in a high demand environment. It was during his time at the nanoFAB that I developed an internal administration system - LMACS, that would be used to help grow the facility to become one of the premier institutions in Canada.Colabmacs is the commercial successor to the LMACS platform. Completely re-written from the ground up, the system leverages the experiences of the predecessor application, and builds upon lessons learned to improve the usability & configurability of the system. Colabmacs seeks to provide a robust platform for the management of open access environments, allowing technical staff to focus on innovation instead of administration.
