Together with one other person, I founded this charitable organization with the mission to respond to global healthcare emergencies through innovative engineering. We began our journey with the goal to develop and deploy remote medical ventilators to low resource settings but when we learned about the effectiveness and need for oxygen we pivoted to highly resilient oxygen concentrators after a year. As Head of Product Development, I have been working remotely with volunteers from every populated continent on all aspects of product development. Eventually I was directly responsible for leading and managing over 50 people across 11 Teams. Since this experience was very intense and diverse, I am breaking it down into multiple experiences that match the different roles I have had.

I have been a member of the board since the beginning of the organization.- Attaining objective, quantifiable information on strategic priorities in an ever-shifting pandemic to inform the board's decisions.- Reporting project progress to the board and cross-functionally between teams.- Identifying the need, convincing, and onboarding several key players to join our mission and become leaders of the organization.- For a long time central point of contact for all teams, communicating risks, opportunities, and project progress during weekly team-wide and organization-wide updates.- Initial setup of OKRs, a program management plan, and consequently a program management office working alongside several highly experienced program managers.- Step up and fill vacant lead positions outside of my expertise (e.g. fundraising, quality management, UX, ...) through first-principle thinking and advanced learning methods.- Conducting workshops and social events to increase team motivation and coherence.- Remaining aware of all activities in the organization to identify and solve bottlenecks.

- Identified and secured IT sponsorships totaling over USD 10,000/year lowering the organizations running costs to < USD 300 / year.- Setup and maintained a secure virtual machine server for Jira & Confluence in Azure.- Purchased & maintained security certificates, domain name systems, email accounts and our website in collaboration with professional IT volunteers.- Designed and implemented a position management, applicant tracking and volunteer database system in Jira in collaboration with the HR team, automating 80% of the recruiting and onboarding process.

- Specified system diagrams and design requirements with traceability based on UNICEF/WHO guidelines, FDA requirements, and IEC 60601 (safety & essential performance of medical electrical equipment).- Interviewed several medical professionals to validate and prioritize requirements.- Prepared various Quality Management Standard Operating Procedures (ISO 13485 Medical QMS).- Conducted Risk Analysis through FMEA and I/O-Analysis (ISO 31000).- Interfaced with development teams to ensure requirements are understood and implemented.- Worked with several senior medical quality experts to ensure my work is correct.

When we were not able to source a sufficiently qualified UX Lead but were presented with a strong team that wanted to join our organization I had to step up and educate myself in the art of user experience research. Luckily, my sister is a senior UX consultant and with her help I was able to navigate this team which is now the furthest ahead in our oxygen concentrator program.- Assembled and lead a team of 3-5 User Experience researchers/designers in weekly meetings.- Communicated the medical treatment procedures, target environment profiles and technical working principles to a team coming from a web-UX domain.- Trained the team on usability design standard operating procedures and IEC 60601-6 (Usability for medical electrical devices).- Planned, participated in and evaluated several user acceptance tests.- Conducted a misuse risk analysis assessing 37 risks in this domain.- Built an interactive prototype of the user interface based on the electrical system, manufacture and user requirements in Figma that was rated as very usable by 80% of test participants.

- Designing and programming an object-orientated framework in C++ based on an RTOS for efficient and highly reliable peripheral control, adaptive decision making and data management that became the basis for all our software development.- Participating in the development of PCBs and selecting cost-effective digital components, sensors and actuators in accordance with system requirements.- Leading a team of 2-8 volunteer developers of various experience levels.- Developing and maintaining an agile project plan to implement product requirements in Jira.We are now on our way to further modularize the framework I had written for it to become the first free and open-source medical device embedded framework with the hope that it will accelerate the development of new, smart IoT medical devices and in that way alleviate more suffering in the world.

- Used First Principles thermodynamics to conceptualize an innovative dehumidification system to achieve a theoretical 80% dehumidification in extreme ambient conditions with few basic off-the-shelf parts and minimal assembly steps, and 95% with few additional parts.- Worked alongside an experienced manufacturing expert to find the most simple and reliable manufacturing method for our product.- Used CAD and my personal FDM and SLA 3D-printers to build proof of concepts and test rigs for the software team.- Developed the Device Master File of our main product.- Designed a capnography system for measurement of expiratory CO2 at 10% cost compared to an off-the-shelf device. - Identified most cost-effective parts and potential suppliers in accordance with system requirements.- Participated in biomedical safety evaluations (ISO 18562).

Germany

Given my in-depth knowledge of Jira and the highly automated hiring tool I have built for my other organization, I decided to become a React developer and build a highly automated, AI powered applicant tracking system with relationship management and employee management features in form of a Jira App using Agile principles. Eventually, due to slow development progress of the Jira app framework, I decided to put the project on hold as I encountered too many unnecessary roadblocks and will reconsider this app when the framework has matured.- Went from close to no Javascript experience to a productive React and Typescript developer in about three weeks thanks to the many other programming languages I speak and my learning techniques.- Conducted a market research and competitor analysis.- Created and prioritized 5 User Flows and over 300 User Stories in Jira.- Created a process chart lining out MVP and future process steps.- Developed a framework in Typescript to access and manage Jira entities with minimal code, asynchronously and with minimal refresh times.- Setup servers and development of 80% of the essential features for the MVP

Together with a colleague, I organized a voluntary tutoring group for our first year physics students where we provided them with visualizations, mathematical tools and real-life application examples for the abstract mathematical topics they learned in lectures. I very much enjoyed this position as it gave me the opportunity to share my passion for abstract thinking with a group of 5-20 (depending on the week and topic) young and open-minded students, some of whom said would have dropped out without us. Seeing how it took just a little bit of empathy and a safe environment for people to open up and ask questions that would transform their lives, I since try to create such environments in every area of my life, share knowledge whenever I can, and try to be courageous about asking stupid questions myself.

Assistance for a PhD with simulation of agglomeration of nano particles in combustion processesin an english work environment. I became a part-time associate with this group, and learned a lot about basic economics and presentation skills but after a few customers I did not like the manipulative culture that was encouraged by the mentor they assigned to me and left the group. Later I learned that my mentor had been expelled from the group.
