My son Cole has the incurable brain condition Hydrocephalus. My wife and I, along with 3 other families, started the PHF, Inc. in 2009. We now have 30 State Chapters across the Country. The mission of the Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation is to educate the community by raising the level of awareness about this brain condition. The PHF will also provide support to the families, friends and children who are diagnosed with Hydrocephalus.Some of the accomplishments that I initiated include:• Worked with Members of Congress to introduce & pass Resolution designating the month of September as National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month - (HR 373 2009)• Worked with Members of Congress to create member caucus for the Hydrocephalus Community ~ (Congressional Pediatric & Adult Hydrocephalus Caucus)• Host Congressional Briefings on Capitol Hill • Host & Plan national annual Issues & Action Hydrocephalus Conference on Capitol Hill • Strategic planning meetings w/ PHF State Chapter Directors on fundraising & awareness campaigns around the Country• Frequent speaker at conferences on advocacy & sharing our story (FRC's Blogs for Life, RDLA's Legislative Conference for Rare Disease Week, Comcast News)The PHF will raise money for and work with the medical community in searching for a cure and additional treatment options for those with Hydrocephalus.The PHF, Inc. is an all volunteer, non-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization and as such, all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.Additionally, the PHF will advocate on behalf of the members of the Hydrocephalus community and work with policy makers at the State and Federal level to raise awareness and push for more research and support in our fight against Hydrocephalus.
