I have spent the past fifteen years of my career in a special needs capacity, with quite a varied background of experiences. I have worked with students that have mild to moderate handicapping conditions across the spectrum of autism, reading disabilities, and behavioral and attention concerns. I have also had the unique experience of serving as a transition point for these students from the Primary Years Programme to the Middle School Years Programme and then on to the Diploma Programme within the International Baccalaureate (IB). This varied experience is complemented not only with my Master’s Degree in Special Education, but with certifications in working with students with autism and English-language learners. I also believe in taking an active role in every school community I am a part of. I have had the opportunity to be a presenter at the Association of German International Schools (AGIS) on the topic of Classroom Management. I have also led a proactive approach to staff information regarding learning disabilities. Every school and every classroom has students with learning differences. This proactive approach I started has been geared to keep all teachers and staff well-informed of current knowledge in the field of learning disabilities, and how to address their concerns with practical accommodations in the classroom.
