Throughout my programming career I have picked up many skills, not only through schooling, but also through a desire to make things.I started my journey by learning Java so that I could develop text-based games. I went on to learn HTML/CSS/JS for graphical games, PHP and relational databases for inter-user communication, Node.js and websockets for real time communication, C# for 3D physics in Unity, among other technologies. I have consistently chosen to learn new skills to bring my ideas to life.As I began my college and working career, I found myself well-prepared for a wide variety of applications. My knowledge was more than surface-level: I had real experience with each of the languages and concepts I had previously mastered for my hobby projects. Many people go to college to get a degree or learn skills for their career - for me, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has provided me incredible opportunities to grow and apply my skills with groups of other like-minded students. Through these clubs and experiences I am further motivated to grow as a developer - I have found that the more I am willing to learn, the more I am able to understand and take part in new endeavors. While in high school I earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, an award that taught the ins and outs of leading a team effectively. At the time, I hadn’t connected that leadership experience to my programming experience because I had always developed alone. However, at RIT it has proved invaluable as I am able to revitalize club projects such as the Games Team of the Neurotechnology Exploration Team and the Robotics Club’s Pacbot, a physical robot that can play Pacman on a real field. As I acquire more career experience, all these skills have only become more invaluable. I’m often asked where I think my career will end up, a question I cannot answer yet - there’s still so much to try, so much to learn, and so many people to meet. Please get in contact if you’re looking for a co-op developer that loves learning and contributing to all sorts of products. I’m so excited… for whatever’s next!
