The Vice-president of Legal Affairs advises the Board on legal matters related to the activities and issues encountered during the regular business of the ISSF. Duties include but are not limited to reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements, drafting legal opinions and rendering legal advice concerning ventures that the ISSF plans to undertake. The Vice-President of Legal Affairs also acts as a the primary point of contact in the event of legal action against the ISSF and its principles and is responsible for securing and managing outside legal counsel to deal with external legal actions against the ISSF.

The ISSF is a 501(3)(c) organization. The President and Chief Executive Officer of the ISSF is charged with leading the Executive Committee in the day-to-day operation of the ISSF. The President/CEO also acts as an ex offcio member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for ensuring that pre-selected grants requests and proposals are in line with the ISSF established rules and policies. The President and CEO is also charged with creating the review committee to authorize grants for endeavors related to the field of space safety.

Provides content for both the online of Space Safety Magazine as well as substantive articles for the print version of Space Safety Magazine. The Legal and Policy Editor also interfaces with the legal and policy community to promote Space Safety Magazine and obtain and review potential areas of interest to present within the publication. The Legal and Policy Editor also performs other duties as assigned by the Editor-in-Chief, including conducting interviews of potential contributors as well searching other media sources for potential re-print in Space Safety Magazine.

The General Counsel advises Space Safety Magazine on legal matters related to the production and publication of both the print version and web version of Space Safety Magazine. The duties of the General Counsel include but are not limited to reviewing and negotiating agreements for sponsorship, advertisement and printing of the magazine as well as any contractual matters that may arise. The General Counsel also advises Space Safety Magazine about possible legal issues that may arise during the course of the publication’s production. The General Counsel also acts as a the primary point of contact in the event of legal action against Space Safety Magazine and its principles and is responsible for securing outside legal counsel to deal with external legal actions against the publication.

Provides analysis and consultations on matters relating to space law and policy, including analysis of international legal trends that may affect commercial and national security interests.Provides legal analysis for media relating to trending issues in space law, policy and activities.Provides legal analysis and counsel for business contracts for issues that may implicate international and domestic law and policy.

Created a visible, viable legal resource within the corporate structure of New Hampshire Civil Air Patrol. Volunteer/pro-bono legal counsel with duties including but not limited to briefing the Wing Commander, who is the corporate officer for New Hampshire, at least once a month prior to staff meeting on Legal’s activities and matters affecting the Wing; advising the Wing Commander on matters that affect New Hampshire Civil Air Patrol as a corporation; advising New Hampshire Wing Staff concerning legal issues that may arise in the course of Civil Air Patrol’s mission; assisting Wing Staff members in matters as ordered by the Wing Commander; advising on legal implications of Civil Air Patrol programs to include interpretation of laws and regulations; contracts and agreements; insurance; real estate; taxation; investigation; corporate records; relations with state and local agencies; development of policies to Civil Air Patrol regulation; to insure compliance with New Hampshire law; and rendering of legal advice and opinions regarding Civil Air Patrol activities as requested.
