Lead the development, implementation and execution of the service unit's safety plan and Total Safety Culture. Direct problem-solving, training, employee coaching and rules compliance to ensure safe operations. Manage the service unit's execution of employee, customer service and public safety initiatives and processes, integrating transportation, mechanical, and engineering activities. Provide technical expertise and manage compliance with operating practices, safety rules, federal (CFR), and safety related regulations. Service: Collaborate with the Director of Transportation Service, Director of Terminal Operations, other regional and service unit personnel regarding operational plans and issues , as well as with centralized functions, NPO, CI, HDC, etc. Leadership: Provide direction, guidance, and integration of safety practices and processes across the service unit. Provides expert counsel on operating practices, safety rules, and TSC support. Ensure the skills of the work force are fully utilized and developed through employee involvement, coaching, performance feedback and training. Financial Performance: Help the service unit achieve financial targets. Identify opportunities to revise operating procedures and practices to increase productivity/reduce operating expense. Help achieve service unit operating income results and improve service unit operating ratio. Asset Utilization: Ensure service unit engineers are coached and developed in train handling and fuel conservation practices. Strategic/Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead and/or participate in the development and implementation of operating, safety, and public affairs strategies, plans and initiatives. Ensure effective implementation of new systems or central direction/programs related to safety and operating practices - act as service unit liaison assessing system/program design and associated audit systems and business processes.
