During my time here I helped migrate our database from Oracle to Postgres, and then improved our Hibernate implementation to take advantage of this. Carrying on from that, I let the conversion of our applications to be fully Spring Boot (and Java-configured) from standard (XML-configured) Spring apps. I was then involved with our running these applications on AWS servers, and worked on our deployment scripts.The next major project I was involved with was the creation of a React.js front end, to be hosted by one of these Spring Boot apps. This involved setting up npm and webpack, and integrating this with our Maven deployments. Once the application reached a critical size. I refactored it to use Redux to handle our events and state changes. In this project I also designed our data structure through all the application tiers (database, Java, React).Most recently I have been working on our refactoring of our machine learning module. This has involved migrating a lot of our present functionality from Java into Python, where our Data Scientists are more capable of making changes and running experiments, while also tidying up a lot of rushed and buggy code from earlier releases. Again, I was responsible for defining the data structure for our Python implementation, as well as specifying the pattern of the surrounding Java code, which I implemented alongside another developer.

Primarily trained as a Java developer, but have also been part of a team maintaining an Oracle Forms application since Feb 2015. In Java, I have worked on continuous integration using Eclipse, SVN and Jenkins, and in Forms I've been involved in debugging and developing forms and using an Oracle database.Have been able to learn and use some SQL and BI tools such as Pentaho and PowerBI during a short project.During training period worked on a project tracking weather information in real time using Twitter and publishing tweets about snow to a live map.
