I have graduated from Sacred Heart University! I chose my minor in financial analytics just at the beginning of my Junior year (Fall 21). In my first class, I was taught the fundamental skills of business analytics including compiling summary statistics, data visualization, descriptive data mining, and statistical methods such as hypothesis testing and linear regression using excel. I also, just received my excel certification this April. In my most recent semester (Spring 22) I learned Database concepts and Structured Query Language (SQL) with a focus on business applications. This included database management, table structure, relationships, field definitions, and naming conventions, data access queries using SQL, data definition language (DDL), data manipulation language (DML) commands, table creation using SQL statements, and database security and evolution of data models. This May I plan on completing my SQL certification as well. I have never had experience in either of these fields and yet I excelled. Even with the qualifications I listed, I’d have to say my best skill is my adaptability and readiness to learn new skills. Next semester (Fall 2022) I’ll be excited to learn how to use Python and possibly bring those new skills to a company in the future.
