Student Intern
I worked with the Spin3D group on the synthesis, measurement and analysis of the nanomagnetic behavior of chiral spin systems. This involved the design of the systems using blender and CAD software followed by synthesis using Focused Electron Beam Ion Deposition (FEBID). I then assisted in making X-Ray Magnetic Circular Dischroism (XMCD) images acquired at the BESSY II Synchrotron as well as making dynamic measurements of the systems with different excitations applied. My main role was to aid with the analysis of these measurements. This involved image alignment, masking, normalization, noise removal, formation of XMCD images and analysis of dynamic scans. This analysis was performed using MatLab. I also had the chance to learn about Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) and attend many seminars on a range of topics within the Physics of Quantum Materials, Chemical Physics of Solids and the Physics of Complex Systems. I took part in weekly presentations at group meetings to communicate my progress and goals with this project.
