Risant Health is a nonprofit, charitable organization created by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals with a transformative vision to improve the health of millions of people.Leading 0-to-1 product development for Kaiser Permanente’s Risant Health Value-Based Platform by bootstrapping the product organization, establishing product strategy, and launching population health management capabilities.

The Garfield Innovation Group is the enterprise innovation team attached to the Sydney Garfield Innovation Center. Our team leads system innovation projects that don't fit into existing functions or practices. Manages a portfolio of enterprise strategic initiatives to redefine care delivery models, align technology to strategy, and improve the member experience. Co-led a multidisciplinary project to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship through experience design. Co-led a confidential market assessment of population health management capabilities, resulting in a $50 million equity investment and contributing to the Risant Health product strategy.

The Office of Transformation at Kaiser Permanente takes on strategic innovation projects to address the most significant strategic threats and opportunities of the organization. I lead the day-to-day execution of enterprise design and innovation projects, manage outside consultants, and mentor other designers.Led multiple COVID response projects, including managing a household prevention program that reached 536,000+ household members, consulting with the statewide California Testing Taskforce on testing innovation, conducting original user research, co-authoring whitepapers, and editing an operations manual for antigen testing for homeless populations. Led the research, design, and prototyping to develop a digital ecosystem to promote health and wellness using behavior design techniques. Designed and executed idea collection and evaluation for an enterprise innovation challenge.

Co-founded and developed HDR’s Strategic Innovation practice, partnering with C-suite leaders across major healthcare organizations to develop design-led strategy, improve patient experience, and deploy innovative solutions. Led multiple innovation projects for Kaiser Permanente including care delivery system redesign, outpatient clinic redesign, home health strategy, and design thinking training development. The NextGen Clinic model has been replicated in 27 facilities nationwide since 2015.Led the engagement with the strategic planning special interest group of the American Healthcare Association (AHA) to develop the SHSMD Advance™ platform for self-assessment, skill development, member education, and micro-credentials.

Led digital transformation initiatives including global website redesign, social media strategy, and an award-winning public design blog. Designed and implemented enterprise-wide marketing information sharing platform, creating a lasting solution for global collaboration.Selected for the CIO’s innovation team which brought open-source web hosting into a Microsoft environment, launched internal executive blogs, prototyped social knowledge sharing, developed an internal video hosting platform, and elevated internal web design capabilities.Awarded HDR’s highest employee-nominated recognition, Pathfinder of Distinction for Productivity and Performance.
