As a designer, the end user experience is my focus: concepts and plans should be intuitive to understand and navigate. At the same time, buildings should express a high level of craftsmanship from the initial sketch to the final detail. As a leader at The Beck Group, I work collaboratively with teams in various market sectors and offices to find the commonalities among projects and project types and guide my teams to do the same. I practice a rigor of creativity and iteration in exploring ideas that lead to the best solution. I believe working with clients whose values align with ours is essential. But values are more than just what you find on one’s website. A company’s culture and essence reflect the actions taken by its leaders, the kind of work it does, and ultimately the projects it produces: Does the project do what we set out for it to do? Does it solve problems that the client experienced in their previous building? Does it function the way we intended for it? Is it truly sustainable, and does it promote equality? These are questions we ask throughout the development of the project. These design values consistently direct all thinking on projects. Not only does one have to live it, but we must always promote a consistent message.
