I am a Farm Manager in Shropshire, as well as a founding member and director of The Green Farm Collective, a company set up to trade regeneratively farmed produce, exchange knowledge and to trade carbon and biodiversity. I have transitioned the 600 acre farm I started with in 2014 to zero till and expanded the business to 1700 acres with a further 800 acres of contracting work. The farming system functions without the use of insecticide, seed dressings, fungicides, bagged p&k or lime. Always pushing the boundaries to learn how to farm more sustainably and profitably using biology and nutrition as well as composting rather than the synthetic armoury we have become so used to using. Crop rotation is diverse, growing premium combinable crops including milling wheats, heritage wheats, malting barley and quinoa among others. Sheep are integral to the farming system with no concentrate feeds used, and all lamb finished on cover crops and sold in a local farm shop. 650 ewes are lambed outdoors on an extensive system. Enhancing biodiversity is a key part of the system, with regular bird ringing sessions conducted to help quantify how well a healthy soil can feed nature. I was runner up in The Soil Farmer of the Year 2020, winner of the Climate Change Champions competition 2022, Farmers Weekly farm manager of the year finalist 2022, and an OFC inspire delegate 2024.
