Dr. Michael Kelner has 35 plus years of experience in developing oncology drugs, and is currently CEO of Califia Pharma. The original Illudin/Irofulven analogs were discovered and developed in his laboratory while he was a Professor at UCSD. He has served as a consultant, CSO, and CMO to multiple biopharma entities. He has designed, implemented, and supervised various phase 1, 2 and phase 3 clinical trials including trials used to support NDA filings. He also provides due diligence expertise for those investigating acquisition of an oncology drug. Dr. Kelner has served on many occasions as a consultant to the National Institute of Health (NIH)/National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a reviewer of both their external and internal clinical oncology drug development programs (a member of 12 NIH Study Section review committees). While at UCSD as a full professor, Dr. Kelner has received over $10 million dollar in NIH funding (direct costs), and has managed annual budgets of greater than $25 million per year, authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has 30 US patents awarded.
