When I founded REDRHINO, I took great pride in signing off as the organization’s “Owner & Founder”. Because of conventions having to do with corporate governance, I sometimes had to sign off as President & Chief Executive (CEO). This was necessary on certain documents, seeking a business line of credit, letters of intent from general contractors, etc. CEO’s were responsible for incredible and large organizations. Steve Jobs, Barry Diller, Michael Eisner, these people were Chief Executives. It was embarrassing for me to even begin to think that I use the title, Chief Executive. I feared being seen as delusional.

As of this writing, REDRHINO has opened nineteen offices in seventeen states and Canada. I realize that defining oneself as a CEO based on the size of an organization, makes as much sense as defining oneself as a mother or father based on the number of children you have. It is about the responsibility that one accepts for themselves and the seriousness that they pursue the organization’s endeavors - from driving profits, to influencing strategy, to providing unmatched customer service to ensuring the employees have careers and not just jobs. If this is the litmus test to be considered Chief Executive, then I am proud to be not only the “owner & founder”, but also the organization’s current Founder & Chief Executive.Michael D.
