NDT (VT/UT/MT/PT) at various industrial shutdowns. The highlight has been seeing how a different facet of a familiar industry is approached and managed. It's always humbling seeing how much work/innovation goes into the consumer end products that we take for granted (e.g. petroleum, paper).

CWB certified shop/yard fabricates both portable and permanent bridges designed with combinations of steel, concrete and timber as well as various form-work for pre-fab concrete construction. Total responsibilities were broad and ever changing; QA/QC duties regularly included drawing review, dimensional material checks, layout/fit-up checks, visual weld inspection, ITPs, as-built documentation, coaching welders etc.. Other focuses of the job ranged between operating machinery, cranes/rigging, running safety meetings and actively participating in procedural reviews, planning/layout/fit-up/welding of projects, leading/training crews and supervising day-to-day activities.Highlights of the job were too many to list but primarily included civic projects such as the new (2020/2021) Simon Fraser University stadium, and various permanent bridges located on Vancouver Island.

Wood Buffalo, Alberta, Canada

Suncor Fort Hills; construction of the utilities area. FIFO camp rotational. Majority of work was on the steam generation building. Performed structural welding in addition to electrical work (ranging from cable pulls to glanding/terminating, etc.).Highlight of the job was re-designing and fabricating cable tray runs feeding two primary motors due to being installed backward.

CNRL Horizon; phase 2 DRU-VDU-HSU upgrader. FIFO camp rotational. Structural welding in addition to electrical work (temporary power, mounting equipment, etc.).Highlight of the job was participating on the "Operational Improvement Committee"; working with management to improve the overall sentiment on site as well as helping alleviate some of the growing pains involved in transitioning from primarily commercial projects into the heavy industrial oil sands sector.

Nisku, Alberta, Canada

Bottom to top manufacturer of mobile drilling rigs; performed an array of QA/QC duties with primary focus as a CWB Visual Inspector. Worked toward creating ITPs for multiple product lines, tracking welder qualification records, blueprint review, layout checks, fit-up checks, visual weld inspection, documentation, coaching tradesmen on code requirements, off-site visits to sub-contractors.Highlight of the job was working with the engineering/drafting department to document "red-line" changes for posterity and future development.

Imperial Oil, Kearl Lake; Phase 2. FIFO camp rotational. Majority of duties related to structural welding, in addition to minor electrical work (mostly mounting equipment). First exposure to large-scale projects. Absolutely everything was a learning experience; highlight was exposure to the enhanced aspects of safety.

Fabricated and repaired mining equipment in a shop environment. Focus was on structural welding in addition to pressure pipe and chromium overlay hard-facing. Developed many abilities while at Bradken; learning and applying safe overhead crane operation and rigging, acted as "Jr. Lead Hand" running projects as needed, and being introduced and inducted into "Lean Manufacturing" principles/practices to name a few.The company was efficient while still maintaining great communication and an intense focus on safety, granting me a deep understanding of what it takes to be successful on the organizational level.

Fabrication shop responsible for construction of mobile drilling rig buildings/components. Most everything done in-house from skid to completion. Simple buildings to complex multi-chamber leak-proof tanks with piping and articulating roofs.Highlight of the job was developing skills related to supervising work done within the shop's parts fabrication area; drafting drawings using AutoCAD and translating files to to proprietary software, which were then cut on an oxy-acetylene burn table for use in fabrication of a variety of components.
