My first position in my career was a clinical nurse on a medical/surgical floor. We dealt with many disease processes and co-morbidities. Including but not limited to: cirrhosis, ESRD, DM type I and II, cystic fibrosis, cancer, Gi bleeds, UC, chrones, lupus, infections, and social issues. In the 4 years I spent there I improved my critical thinking skills and general knowledge of medsurg and became a valued resource for my coworkers. My next position was a night shift supervisor role at a skilled rehab/ long term care facility. Where I was able to use my nursing clinical knowledge to assist me while learned how to manage a team by setting out tasks to improve overall outcomes for my residents. Which included chart monitoring, care planning, identifying and eliminating barriers to care, and working with my interdisciplinary team to ensure proper levels of care for our different residents.
