About Michael Lavin

I was a psychologist at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC), where I worked in embedded behavioural health. On 30 July 2021, I retired as an Army Civilian, and then worked for a couple of eyarss at the 377th Medical Group of the USAF, and retired in November 2024. Before coming to WBAMC, I was a psychologist VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Morristown, Tennessee, where I provided the standard range of psychological service including psychological assessments, individual and group therapy, and consultation; the type of work I will now be doing for the Army at WBAMC. I was a medical advisor and psychologist in the Army Review Boards Agency, where I provided mental-health expertise to several of its Boards. From June 2014 to October 2016, I was a civilian supervisory psychologist for the Army at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. Before going to Fort Leonard Wood, I worked in the Intensive Outpatient Program at Brooke Army Medical Center, as a psychologist. Before that, I was a Behavioral Health Consultant working for the 59th Medical Wing in San Antonio. In addition, I had a solo private practice as a psychologist, providing services to a wide spectrum of clients. I have also worked in forensic hospitals and, before training as a psychologist, I taught philosophy as an assistant and then associate professor (tenured) at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. My published work has centred on theoretical and ethical topics in mental health, but I have also written on drugs in sports and on the definition of death. I am stil licensed as a psychologist in New Mexico and Virginia, but consider myself retired.Specialities: Mental Health Care and Assessment, including expertise in the assessment and treatment of people having difficulty with their sexual behaviour, in behavioural health consulting, in military psychology, and in general psychological services.
