I actively participate in a safety sub-committee every month to discuss safety hazards my crews face on a daily basis and develop/improve safety procedures. I manage multiple crews and set high standards with strict timelines to ensure job completion “punch free”. I conduct site safety audits 2-3 times per week to ensure my crews are not only maintaining exceptional work output but also following all safety protocols and procedures. I am responsible for conducting site-walks, procuring equipment rental and material quotes needed to perform the job, relaying future jobs to the crews in advance for them to review and ask questions, submitting closeout packages to customers, and maintaining construction timelines to ensure margins are met.

I led tower crews of 3-4 in performing troubleshooting, radio and antenna swaps, legacy cable upgrades from coaxial to fiber, site upgrades and capacity expansions. I set high standards of performance; assumed responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments; self-imposed standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed. The ability to read, comprehend, and carry out/relay instructions allowed my crew and I to accomplish whatever project was thrown our way. I utilized my extensive rigging experience to get equipment/ mounts from the ground to the required height on the tower.

I took ownership of the tower top and everything related to the build or upgrade of the site while on the tower. I reviewed CD’s and RFDS’s with tower foreman to ensure radios, antennas, and mounts are set according to build plans. My knowledge of sector/antenna configurations with respect to jumper and coax routing, RET settings and cabling, and fiber routing allowed us to present Closeout packages to customers “punch free”. While in this role, I trained many tower technicians and apprentices.

This was my introduction into telecommunications. While at MUTI, I learned what it means to be a tower climber. I knew nothing of the industry, but quickly learned through a “trial by fire” process. I worked with many different crews on various different carrier projects. This is where I learned how to hang lines and antennas; route, plumb and make RF jumpers; and how to manage the tower top. Before leaving, I progressed from a tower tech 1 to a tower tech 3.
