About Michael Leonard
I am currently working as a Special Advisor to the Global CFO for Trading, leading on multiple projects to support transformation of Operational Risk, Compliance and connecting our deal flow to long term strategy and asset allocation. This role leverages my background leading strategy, digital, finance and commercial teams across the business and supports the additional of digital capabilities to connect the pieces together.My previous role was Operating Partner at Launchpad where I led BP’s venture arm. Launchpad is focused on the scaling of technology companies to enable the transition to low carbon and energy efficient options. I am passionate about the opportunity to support the energy transition by acquiring, scaling, and developing a portfolio for BP. I worked with portfolio companies on their growth strategy and partnerships while managing the corporate interface to achieve the most value for the portfolio and fulfill BP’s strategic goals. I was the Chair for several portfolio company boards (Blueprint Power, Insight Analytics Solutions (Onyx)) and serve on the Stryde Board as well as serving as an NED for Trading and Shipping inside BP. In addition, I served on the Board of ISDA representing BP.Over a 20 year energy career, I have led global teams across significant commercial, finance and digital for bp across multiple commodities. I have built and led strategy for deployment across geographies to support growing trading and technology opportunities. This has meant leading initiatives to drive commercial outcomes in new focus areas like biofuels and new geographies for trading and origination which needed a clear strategic plan to support early stages of growth.
