I have primary responsibility for ANZ’s Global Transaction Banking business for Financial Institutions which has been rated No.1 by FI Metrix for the past 12 years and No.1 by Peter Lee & Associates 2020. Our customer base includes Banks and Non-Bank Financial Institutions. The latter includes all traditional NBFIs as well as Fintechs, Payment and FX Aggregators. My team consists of 50 professionals located in key financial centres globally including Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, London and New York.Our product offering covers the full spectrum of Transaction Banking including AUD/NZD Clearing, Aust/NZ Agency Services, Payments, Cash Management as well as the Trade & Supply Chain.

My responsibilities included the end to end ownership of ANZ’s Global Trade & Supply Chain business including a full range of traditional trade products as well as more complex bespoke structured solutions across 33 countries. During my almost three years in the role, the trade finance industry experienced a material contraction in commodity prices, excess liquidity, increased provisions and shrinking margins. Consequently my initial 12-18 months involved remediating the business and increasing returns which required revenue growth, cost reduction while derisking the book. Followed by returning the business’ growth momentum and establishing its longer term Trade Digitisation strategy. Including:• The use of machine learning to automate manual paper based process in early 2017. Today, 65% of ANZ’s trade processes use machine learning or robotic process automation.• The acceleration of ANZ’s Digital Self Service via our Trade Portal• Founding Steerco Member for the initial POC and progression to production of the Lygon Consortium’s Bank Guarantee Distributed Ledger Platform• Founding Steerco Member for the Trade Information Network consortium including ANZ, BNPP, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Standard Chartered• ANZ’s entry to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Distributed Ledger Trade Platform, the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s National Trade Platform. Products and services: • Export and Import Documentary Trade & Finance. • Supply Chain Finance – Receivables and Payables Financing. • Guarantees – Domestic and cross border financial and performance guarantees.• Financial Institution Trade - Counter, Surety and SBLCs.• Structured Trade & Commodity Finance - Borrowing Base, Repos, Pre-export and Prepayment financing structures

I was recruited by ANZ to establish a globally focused structured trade and commodity finance proposition. When I joined ANZ the capability did not exist. Accordingly, I built the team, all products, policies and operational processes. - ANZ STCF grew at a CAGR of 25% per annum for 5-6 years reaching $50m in revenue in 2015.- Business scope included Warehouse Financing, Borrowing Base Financing, Commodity Repos (obligated and unobligated buy back), Pre-export financing, Commodity Prepayments (Financial & Physical). Tenors up to 5 years.- The team included 20 STCF professionals in Melbourne, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and London.- The portfolio of transactions spanned 11 jurisdictions across the full spectrum of commodities from soft/agriculture commodities, base metals, mining and energy. - We won ten deal of the year awards in 5 years from Trade Finance Magazine, Trade & Forfaiting Review and Global Trade Review.- Established a joint venture between ANZ’s Global Transaction Banking and Global Markets divisions to deliver high value integrated derivative and physical commodity backed financing structures.

- My role required building a team of specialist STCF professionals located in Sydney, Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong.- Business scope included Pre-export/Prepayment, inventory financing and Transit Trade/Structured Documentary Letters of Credit. Deals closed in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, China and South Africa.- Three Deal of the Year awards from Trade Finance Magazine, Trade & Forfaiting Review and Global Trade Review as well as Most Innovative Transaction for 2007 from the Asset for an Indian Carbon Credit Prepayment financing.

- HSBC’s Regional Hong Kong Credit Risk Management- Primary responsibility for Asia Pacific Trade & Supply Chain product and policy initiatives.- Primary country risk management responsibilities included New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Korea and Bahrain (Offshore booking center for substantial Middle East transactions).- Primary responsibility for Project & Export Finance, Leverage Acquisition (M&A), Asset Finance and Structured Trade & Commodity Finance transactions undertaken in Asia Pacific, Greater China and Middle East.

- Leading a team of client relationship bankers for large corporate, top 150 ASX and Multinationals.- Hired as an international trade specialist with a portfolio of trade heavy clientele.- Sourced new corporate relationships yielding significant revenue.- No.1 for Markets and Trade & Supply Chain sales in Australia.- Negotiated and won significant mandates for acquisition finance and multi-jurisdictional trade lines. - Overseeing all material transactions with regard to negotiation of terms, internal credit risk approvals and documentation negotiation.- Responsibility for HSBC Corporate Banking NSW's Annual Operating Plan.

- Deal origination and execution for Commercial and Corporate clients.- Significant Markets’ and Trade revenue origination.- Trained and developed by St.George Bank (internal & external programs) to become an international trade finance specialist for Commercial & Corporate Relationship Banking- Originated significant trade relationships and cash management mandates resulting in significant fee generation.
