Mike Loughnane formed Loughnane Associates following a successful 27-year career as a special agent in the U.S. Office of Inspector General (OIG) community, where he specialized in financial crime, computer forensic examination, and cybercrime investigations. Mike retired as Director of Special Operations for the US Environmental Protection Agency, OIG, in 2007 and joined Booz, Allen Hamilton as a Lead Associate leading teams specializing in IT security before moving to another contract assignment as a course developer and trainer in counter-terror finance at the Joint Military Intelligence Training Center, serving the US intelligence community. Today, Mike collaborates with talented instructors to deliver training online and across the United States and internationally in financial crime, terror finance, and domestic violence investigations, including fraud and money laundering, analytics, and counter-terror finance programs. His training is provided through various venues, including the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), the National Guard counterdrug training centers located in the Northeast (NCTC) and Western (WRCTC), various HIDTAs and professional organizations such as the Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists and the Association of Anti-money Laundering Specialists. Mike has also participated in international conferences such as those held by the Intelligence Support Systems and spoken at recent anticorruption conferences sponsored by Transparency International and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Mike also maintains a website (http://valuetoucheseverything.com) with various training materials and a YouTube channel.Mike supports organizations such as the Antiquities Coalition, where he contributed as a co-editor to their 2020 report, “Reframing U.S. Policy in the Art Market.” In 2022, he authored a chapter for a book about financial investigation challenges in antiquities crime, “Antiquities Smuggling in the Real and Virtual World,” edited by Dr. Louise Shelley and Dr. Layla Hashemi, published by Routledge Press. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University and professional certifications from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Association of Certified Anti-money Laundering Specialists, and as an international instructor by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
