About Michael Lowry
I am an Internationally experienced Medical Device focused Mechanical Engineer with 9 years of experience in Orthopedics. During this time, I have lead verification and validation testing for total knee and hip products from concept through launch and supported post-market sustaining engineering efforts. My 10+ years of CAD design experience in Solidworks has helped me deign and build prototype implants, instruments, test fixtures, and other needed components to drive the projects forward. Using my 9 years of medical device testing experience, I have delivered effective physical and FEA test methods for implants and instruments that have been used for design controls and for FDA submission in support of regulatory clearances. I lead the creation of an internal testing laboratory for orthopedic medical devices and surgical instruments, and continued to build that capability to save the company over $100,000 of up front outsourced testing costs, and these capabilities continue to yield additional cost savings and increased control and flexibility over our device testing. The capabilities I built also enable us to conduct testing much earlier in the design process for lower cost and risk which will lead to better designs. With the experience of some of these methods, I have been actively participating in ASTM to develop some of these new methods into international standards in collaboration with the working groups, and am leading the development of two new standards within ASTM, and also contribute technical feedback into the community to help make the standards relevant, robust, and valuable.
