About Mike Sweigart

I am an applied social and behavioral scientist and political psychologist focused on global democracy, human rights, and governance (DRG) issues. In my current position at Democracy International, I manage an innovative technical team supporting the application of social and behavioral science and monitoring, evaluation, and learning in DRG programs.I am also an affiliate faculty at George Mason University, where I study social identities and norms during conflict and contentious social change processes. Most recently, I contributed to research on the social psychological mechanisms through which wartime experiences are influencing public support for potential peace negotiations in Ukraine. Additionally, my doctoral dissertation research examined how transnational LGBTIQ+ activism can influence gay and lesbian rights norms in contexts where it is highly contested as a foreign threat. My research and practice build upon 14+ years of experience in democracy and governance development and conflict resolution across diverse global contexts, with a particular focus on the Balkans, Central Asia, and North Africa.

Listed skills include Qualitative Research, International Relations, Research, Public Speaking, and 14 others.
