Lead Ux Designer, Business Intelligence & Analytics

Greater Seattle Area

During my six years at CDK Global (formerly Cobalt), I was the lead designer for the BI & Analytics team, helping to deliver enterprise web application software that serves both CDK internal and external facing customers. Internally, the product was used daily by our account managers and analysts; externally, the product supported over 60K auto dealerships and their partner OEMs. I helped transform and transition a decades-long accumulation of disparate reporting practices to a more unified, modern, and scalable web application suite. My work helped promote CDK as a genuinely data-driven enterprise among our customers and the industry.I was also a primary contributor to the CDK design system named Radial. Specifically, I authored all CDK products' data visualization design guidelines, advocating best practices in dashboard design and charting usage. My focus was to promote responsible and appropriate data visualization and treat the subject as more than just visual decoration. I incorporated UX and usability concerns across the entire application suite so that users can consume data efficiently, consistently, and tailored towards action specific to their KPIs.

Senior Developer, Ui & Data Visualization

Fabric Worldwide (Closed 2014)

Greater Seattle Area

As a data visualization engineer, I brought my technical background in databases to the presentation layer, focusing on dashboard design and development. Fabric Worldwide was a small start-up founded by former London Razorfish leadership and backed by WPP. Fabric’s primary product was the digital marketing platform that used the latest cloud and machine learning technology to help our clients manage, plan, and implement their digital marketing strategies. Key clients included Samsung, Unilever, and Glaxo Smith Kline.Fabric WorldWide Ltd was a specialist technology company and provider of WPP’s client-side platform. Our technology was based around The Fabric client-side DMP and Marketing Operating System, which allowed marketing data and ways using this data to deliver relevant communication programs to be consistent across channels, and across different parts of the client’s organization. The purpose of the business was to enable clients to use the consumer signals from digital channels faster, more intelligently and more centrally in their business.

Data Visualization Engineer

Seattle, Washington, United States

As a data visualization engineer for the VivaKi organization of Publicis, I brought together my design, database, and web development skills to help the BI and Analytics Team create the client-facing dashboard application called Edge. The application allowed clients to view their media and advertising data in various reports and charting tools mapped to their marketing data. This work transformed the former client-by-client data warehousing and spreadsheet reporting practice into a dedicated software application that could scale to all clients.

Feb 2008 - Jul 2011

Senior Database Engineer

Seattle, Washington, United States

As a senior database engineer among the BI organization, I was responsible for modeling and engineering the data structures for several Avenue A / Razorfish clients. I was involved in all parts of the technology stack from database engineering to web development. On the back-end, I used the company's proprietary map-reduce ETL scripting language (Profiler Virtual Machine) to create data inputs for SQL Server databases and OLAP cubes. These relational databases and OLAP cubes were used by both internal analysts as well as clients.

Jun 2004 - Jan 2008

Global Operations Analyst

Greater Seattle Area

In my role as Global Operations Analyst, I was responsible not only for data-warehousing and reporting queries but also in helping to unify all the department operations reporting that filtered up to the then COO, Jeff Wilke. The "Wilke Deck" was a highly visible collection of reports that were compiled every week and reviewed by the SVP team at Amazon. By having the added advantage of Web Design and UI skills, I was able to create a cohesive deck and developed standards for all reporting layout, design, and charting designs that were consistent across all departments. This increased the efficiency of these weekly meetings and allowed the senior team to focus on action items and less time trying to interpret disparate report designs and their inconsistencies.

Fulfillment Center Lead

Seattle, Wa; Newark, De; Lexington, Ky; Tokyo, Japan

I began at Amazon.com in the original Seattle warehouse and quickly established myself as a leader. In the early days of e-commerce, there was so much change and evolution in both business and technology that it was a hotbed for learning new things every day. I took advantage of this by advancing in leadership and delving into the technology space. To enhance my management tracking, I taught myself programming (Perl), databases (SQL), and presentation layers (Excel and Access). Success here eventually led to my transfer back to Seattle as a Global Operations Analyst in 2000.In the Fulfillment Centers, I worked in several locations: Seattle, WA; Newark, DE; Lexington, KY; and Tokyo, Japan.During this time, I am particularly proud of being part of a small handful of Americans that lived and worked in Tokyo to help set up their fulfillment center operations for the launch of Amazon.jp.
