As part of the carbon neutral strategy program, I lead efforts in energy systems analysis to figure out the right problems to work on to meet Toyota's carbon neutral goals. In concert, we search for or create the resources to answer those questions considering such aspects as technology, business, socioeconomics, policy, environment, and consumer behavior. I also am a technical advisor for Toyota Ventures Climate Fund.

Pequrel is working to increase the incomes of all farmers, decrease food loss, and improve climate resilience in rural communities of India.

At Spark, we work on neglected and emerging climate areas that require ecosystem development and support to become self-sustaining movements. Current work focuses on enteric methane domestically and abroad, along with making new Farm Bill recommendations in this space.

- Circular Economy of Lithium Ion Batteries: core researcher for life cycle assessment of lithium-ion batteries comparing their conventional supply chains and manufacturing to current and projected recycling scenarios; collaborate with battery recycling start-up companies.- Energy-Agriculture-Development: creator and lead on project to reduce food loss while improving farmer incomes in India through productive (i.e. income-generating) uses of energy. o Developed systems-level research approach that combines technical design, technoeconomics, socioeconomics, business operations, policy, and ethics necessary to create triple bottom line interventions that are economically self-sustaining with the potential to scale; efforts increased farmer revenues 10-25%. o Acquired funding for research, field work, and prototyping; recruited 2 major India-based development and entrepreneurship partners. - Data-Energy-Productivity & Development: conceived and oversee data project assessing the differential impacts of electricity access and use on economic productivity in 100’s of income generating activities in India; - Instructed/mentored 70+ students, 10 capstone course projects related to productive (i.e. income-generating) energy in developing communities from the following departments: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and the Graduate School of Business.

- A founding student of the William Chueh research group, which focuses on energy conversion and storage.- Discovered a major mechanism of fuel cell/electrolyzer degradation and engineered stabilizing surface coatings for drop-in commercial application.- Constructed elevated-temperature electrochemistry testing station and co-developed in-situ, environmental SEM.- Lab Manager of Chueh Lab (‘15-16): Based on 1-on-1 conversations with entire 25-member group, organized working sub-groups, mediated lab dynamics and vendor negotiations; initiated and organized professional development sessions.- Co-designed and implemented graduate course on advanced batteries; designed final student projects that have led to student patent applications.

- Project manager for award-winning solar lantern rental system in un-electrified villages in Laos and Cambodia.- Developed a new, more robust lantern and charging station combination to replace previous heavy, unreliable system. Projects/system featured in a UNESCO publication on innovative technologies benefiting developing countries (2011).- Learned to read and converse in Lao

- A founding member of transparent electrode research sub-group. Developed high-conductivity, transparent polymer electrodes for organic solar cell devices (primary discoverer, cited > 800 times).- Developed new organic synthesis for thin-film conducting polymer. - Attended UNFCCC COP15 and co-wrote and educational blog for the public.
