Business Analyst
Currently, I am working on a DVSA project as the sole BA. This role has been great for me as it's allowed me to gain experience working independently of other analysts, work with the tech leads and delivery manager to shape the team's ways of working towards a more agile approach, and agree with the wider team a standardised approach for user stories/acceptance criteria- something the team was missing before I joined.Due to the nature of the project having several key stakeholders all responsible for different components, with different visions and priorities of what the team should be delivering- stakeholder management has been key to this role. Some of the steps I have taken to achieve this are as follows:Agreement- ensuring agreement from all the stakeholders on priority, both at sprint planning and a weekly priority callTransparency- ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the reasons/rationale for the priorityAwareness- If there are any changes to what's been agreed, all stakeholders are informed ASAP
Scrum Analyst
After spending 1 year working as a contractor for Sky through FDM group, I was offered the chance to go permanent. I am currently working within Sky's assurance project team and have been part of developing the new assurance journeys for Sky Glass and Sky's new Broadband & Talk service both UK and ROI. As the analyst for my scrum team, my roles and responsibilities include working with UX and design to break down features into user stories, leading refinements, filling the product owner role to prioritise the backlog, lead sprint planning, liaising with business stakeholders to gather requirements and playing back through business showcases what has been delivered, to ensure their expectations have been met. I have also taken an active part in mentoring new less experienced team members to bring them up to speed and help them to understand their role and how agile projects operate.
Scrum Analyst
I began my journey with Sky working as part of Sky Business Connect, before moving to join Sky's Assurance team. I have enjoyed the fast paced environment agile environment Sky offers. I found that being an analyst positioned within a scrum team quickly honed my skills and confidence to become a valued member and the leading point of contact for the business.Due to staffing shortages we were without a scrum master for 3 months, so I took on the role in addition to my own. This involved leading the team's retrospectives, implementing a 3 monthly team review where we scored where we as a team thought we were at that time against different agile metrics. From this, we would then discuss and agree actions with the goal to improve our scores ahead of the next session. This proved to be a great success and was even adopted by other scrum teams across the organisation. Self-development is something that is very important to me, so I run a weekly call with the scrum where we discuss what online courses/training we've completed and record our comments on confluence so other members of the team can quickly find useful links to recommended resources.
Business Consultant
After completing my MSc I was keen to enter the tech world and FDM group was a great fit for me. FDM allowed me to get experience with a range of blue chip companies such as the DWP, Clydesdale, Virgin Money and Sky. In preparation for working with the afore mentioned clients, I under took the following courses1. Professional Skills including development lifecycle, presentations & report-writing;2. Structured Query Language including database manipulation;3. Excel including VBA, Solver, Aggregate Functions, Nested If statements, V-Lookups;4. Project Support including project and programme structures, planning, roles & responsibilities, working with MS Project and Visio, risk management and monitoring project cost and progress;5. PRINCE2 Foundation including an overview of the Processes, Principles and Themes of waterfall project management;6. Business Analysis including strategy analysis, business process modelling, requirements engineering and business case development;7. Financial Industry Awareness including Debt Instruments, Equities, Taxation, Derivatives, Investment Funds & Financial Markets;8. Project Week – a simulated IT project utilising the skills, tools and techniques learnt throughout the previous week9. Professional Scrum Master 1 (PSM1)
Business Analyst
After our team successfully delivered the office 365 project, I was asked to be kept on for both the Windows 10 and Virtual desktop infostructure projects in a business analyst role. My key responsibilities during the role were reporting to different stakeholders, sending out daily communications, resolving user issues, testing, Bug triaging and providing support directly to the bank’s leadership team, both one on one and at events around the UK. This role in addition to providing me with an excellent insight into private sector projects, greatly sharpened my technical skills from daily use of tools such as Excel, MS Teams, Service Now, Jira, confluence, SQL and Figma
Project Support Officer
I worked as part of a small agile project team delivering Office 365 and providing training for it to roughly 10,000 users across the bank. This involved spending time with key stakeholders such as the bank's extended leadership team, to ensure they were aware of how the upgrades would effect the programmes/platforms their teams required and that said programmes/platforms were compatible with the new office 365 suite. I gained strong stakeholder management skills as I learned to prioritise, manage users’ expectations and take the necessary actions required to find solutions for users as effectively as possible.
Project Support Officer
The DWP’s windows 10 upgrade project was a great first insight into the industry as I was apart of delivering one of the largest tech upgrade projects ever within in Europe. My primary role was to travel across the country to liaise with stakeholders, deliver frontline training to staff and conduct presentations of the new improvements to up to 20 users at a time.
