My role includes managing networks, compute and storage, security, DR and Helpdesk.I performed a complete infrastructure re-design, reviewed and optimised core components and implemented new solutions. Key projects:- Infrastructure update. I replaced old hardware with modern hosts and a SAN and changed the colocation space to a modern data centre, allowing future growth. I also updated connectivity options to avoid bottlenecks and single points of failure. I migrated cloud IaaS into a hybrid design. Project ROI - less than 12 months. - Phone system upgrade. The company migrated from an old in-house PABX system to a modern and flexible VoIP solution. Project ROI - 16 months. I replaced the proprietary Telstra MPLS solution with VMware Velocloud SD-WAN. As a result, I achieved at least 95% connectivity SLA across all retail locations. Project ROI - 24 months.Implementing the above project reduced OPEX IT cost by 60% pa.- I took under control the IT Helpdesk function. Response time KPI reduced from 4-5 days to 12 hours. The average queue length dropped from 180-190 tickets to 40-50. A geographically dispersed helpdesk team allows increasing coverage from 9 to 11 hours.- The backup and DR solutions were reviewed and changed. As a result, RTO and RPO are within the business requirements and proved achievable by successful DR tests.- A zero-trust network access solution was implemented to allow safe and flexible access to the company resources without a single bottleneck of a VPN gateway or a central firewall.All infrastructure changes and new solutions allowed the company to enter into the pandemic period without any loss in functionality and with zero additional investments. As a result, the current state of the IT infrastructure allows flexible working arrangements.
