Mandate To provide independent, objective assurance to the Nedbank Board of Directors, via the Group Audit Committee that the governance processes, management of risk and systems of internal control are adequate and effective to mitigate the most significant risks, both current and emerging, that threaten the achievement of the Group’s objectives, and in so doing help improve the control culture of the Group. Purpose To provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the operations of the Nedbank Group. It helps Nedbank Group accomplish its objectives by bringing about a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of systems that control the management of risk and governance processes. Group Internal Audit is uniquely suited to provide the following types of services: Independent assurance•An objective examination of evidence for the purpose of providing an independent assessment on the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management, control and corporate governance processes for the organisation.•Adequate and effective risk management, control and governance processes reduce but cannot eliminate, the possibility of poor judgment in decision making, human error, control processes being deliberately circumvented by employees and others, management overriding controls and the occurrence of unforeseeable circumstances.•Adequate and effective risk management, control and governance processes therefore provide reasonable, but not absolute, assurance that Nedbank will not be hindered in achieving its business objectives, or in the orderly and legitimate conduct of its business.

The Student Sport Committee is the official student sports service provider for the University. We, at the Student Sports Comittee strive to do our best in managing sport activities for students at the University of Pretoria in order to promote optimal participation. To create an efficient and positive organisational structure and to positively promote the image of the University through excellent sport management.We also forge great brotherhood/sisterhood between our excellent residences and day houses in and around the university. An equal opportunity is given to all that attend the university and we hope that you will all take our excellent managing skills and use them to your advantage on the field.The Students Sport Committee organises events such as Big Brag, Intervarsity between the University of Johannesburg and University of Pretoria, the residence leagues, priority sports and recreational sports meetings throughout the year.As Vice Chair (internal) and Secretary, I set the agenda for all meetings, write, type, distribute minutes to all members of the committee, distribute information from all stakeholders to the relevant portfolio member concerned and making sure that all portfolios are functioning well, internal communication amongst members goes unhindered, and make sure that committee members know what to do and when.

The Student Representative Council aims to ensure that each and every student of the University of Pretoria is treated with the utmost respect and ensuring that no right of the student is enfringed.It is the main role and core function of the Student Representative Council to advise and assist students with problems relating to academics, finances, accommodation, day and faculty houses, community projects, student safety and security, student rights and student life in general.

University Of Pretoria

The senate of the University is the second highest decision making body, accountable to the council for the academic and research functions of the University of Pretoria. As a representative of the SRC, along with three other colleagues from the SRC, we participated in debates and made sure student’s voices be heard by the senate when it came to issues affecting students directly or indirectly.

The Independent Monitoring Body at the University of Pretoria is the official body which is responsible for making sure that all election procedures are being followed by the various candidates for the parliamentary elections, i.e. faculty, society, residences constituencies. It is chaired by the Dean of Students; other members came from the law faculty, Vice Principals office, and the Student Representative Council amongst others.We heard complaints from the different constituencies and if a matter had far reaching consequences we referred the matter to the Special Election Court which is chaired by the Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning. After the elections, it is this body that declares elections free and fair; thereafter the results are released to the student community.A sound knowledge of the Constitution of the Republic, Bill of Rights, the Constitution of Student Governance at the university is vital as the body applies rules found in the above mentioned texts to clear disputes regarding the elections.

University Of Pretoria

This initiative can only accommodate 100 final year law students who apply and are selected based on different criteria, however a sound academic record being one of the more important considerations. As students we are allocated teams that take the form of “law firms”. Our primary responsibility was to assist clients on pro bono matters. We are expected to run our own individual matters. There is an oral examination at the end of the each semester. . Access to resources and sound legal advice is an important part of the process. Taking this as a shared responsibility across the board, we can achieve so much more in making a positive contribution to society at large.

Pretoria

The main objective of the portfolio is to assist Day and Faculty houses,societies and sub-councils with constitutional amendments, ratification of constitutions and students who feel that their rights have been prejudiced by the University or fellow students. The portfolio also plays the role of legal advisor to the SRC as a whole which includes drafting of proposals andcomplaints to statutory bodies like the Public Protector.
