Give credit where its due. It doesn’t always happen. In my typical client assignment, I work with the client’s junior people to find ways to improve business performance. The approach succeeds because it is honest and it ensures that junior people get full credit for their ideas.Businesses constantly state that their employees are their most important asset. I believe this. I know this. By giving junior people full ownership of and all the credit for ideas created, engaging with them is fun, honest and successful.So, wonderful things can happen – one client employee illustrated how a simple reorganisation of bill printing could save €140,000 per annum. Another Junior person pointed out some of the simple (and easy to close) revenue gaps which accounted for €700,000 in lost revenue per annum. Examples are numerous.Quite often, the knowledge of our operational people is not being tapped. I enjoy working with clients who truly want to tap this knowledge. A win-win approach is certain to succeed – providing Senior Management want it to succeed. If full credit goes to the Junior people who participate in an improvement initiative, morale will soar, people will have fun and the company will reap the rewards of honest people engagement.
