What can I say, I love business! I enjoy watching the unique systems and processes visionaries have created to realize their dreams. From the company culture, products, services and marketing, to sales and operations, it's amazing to watch the pieces some together to create something great, or something not so great. From the time is was a young adult, I always had an interest in business. I wanted to know everything I could about it and I realized quite early, the only way to do that was to be exposed to as many industries and businesses as possible. My goal was to find the common qualities that make all businesses great. From IT, construction, retail and sales, to entrepreneurship, I discovered a couple interesting correlations to those that succeeded and those that failed. • First, it takes only one person to make or break a company and they aren't always in leadership. • Second, employees are human beings, not machines, and companies that remember that seem to have more success over those that don't. • Third, because business is based on systems, changes to one part of the system can compromise the entire system so planning for any change is crucial.• Fourth, saying thank you goes a long way.• Fifth, don't ever underestimate what human beings are capable of, good and bad.• Lastly, if you never challenge someone, how would you or them ever know how great they can be?Something else I picked up on the way is recognizing when systems break down or aren’t getting results and the process needed to correct them. As the basic components of business exist in most companies, having knowledge and experience of those components contributes greatly to achieving any worthwhile goal or mission.
