After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. McCurdy completed his medical training at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He subsequently pursued a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, in which he served as chief resident, followed by a Critical Care Medicine fellowship, all at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Dr. McCurdy is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.Dr. McCurdy is a professor of both Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine at The University of Maryland School of Medicine. While at UMMC, he worked clinically in the Medical ICU, founded the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship and served as its Program Director, and conducted clinical research. He co-founded an online, free, open-access, collaborative critical care education website (www.Maryland.CCProject.com), which received the American Thoracic Society (ATS) Award for “Innovations in Fellowship Education” and is annually rated in the top 10 online critical care education resources in the world. In 2021, he received the national "Mid-Career Educator Award" from the Association of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD).
