By combining both perspectives of working on factory floors as part of production teams and working within Health, Safety & Environmental teams since graduating university. I have gained a unique edge on dealing with prevailing issues, and being able to relate to production staff. I have walked in their shoes, this forms the main inspiration for wanting to make the working world a safer place. Having an engineering based education allows me to understand structural, mechanical and energy risks and weaknesses, essentially understanding how and when something might break and how to prevent it or at least mitigate the hazards and risks. I have worked with all stake holders and levels of organisations to deliver safety performance that works well. I have travelled across industries and gained a broad spectrum of knowledge, having worked in HSE in the wood working, plastic extrusion and heavy engineering industries. I have learned of the nuanced risks and specific process related hazards that lie within these industries. Working well within a team or stand alone i have the confidence to make the important decisions that make the workplace a safer place.
