I am leading the efforts to procure a DERMS solution inclusive of use cases, cybersecurity requirements, workflow processes for equipment, and optimization for market participation.Additionally, I am investigating value streams for optimized battery operations, how to mitigate impacts of flexible loads and generation including electric vehicles, and methods to optimize power quality.

As an engineer and the site admin for fire mitigation efforts, I helped identify locations and devices that were in high fire risk areas and automated much of the process.

I troubleshooted a system failure at one of our power plants affecting the emissions control of some of the units.Additionally, I assisted in writing and setting up training documentation for future interns and engineers on the process of synchronizing generators to the grid.

As the lead operator of the batteries, I improved efficiency and longevity of grid-scale batteries by optimizing battery management system algorithms. I also established models for planners to anticipate behavior of the units and created documentation of their operations.

I discovered the older standards for distribution pole evaluation were not properly accounting for weather conditions. To mitigate this I assisted in implementing a new "heat map" showing which regions were high risk of failure for our distribution lines. Additionally, I provided some statistical models showing that the new standards are not just safer for our customers but that they save the company money long term in avoiding replacement costs. This resulted in APS incorporating these models for future planned projects. I wrote a white paper on the topic which has yet to be published.

I ensured field settings were properly converted from paper records to a digital database. This provided me exposure to the technical aspects of relay protection schemes and provided excellent background to understand the uses of each device.
