Hello! My name is Mike Mehl and I retired from the Active-Duty Air Force in 2018 after just over 21 years of service. I recently found my "post military" home in Federal employment here in San Antoino in 2021. In the Air Force, I was lucky enough to be an avionics technician on C-130s, a maintenance/personnel manager on B-1s, and even got to spend some time in Air Force recruiting service. Being an aircraft mechanic, I learned unique skills like how to sweat uncontrollably in a center dry bay, how to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without touching it with your bare hands (because they were covered in JP-8), or how to turn wrenches in completely crippling physical positions - something you won't learn ANYWHERE else! Being a recruiter, I learned a lot about people......what makes them tick and why each human being is a unique work of art sculpted by their individual exposures, experiences, and value sets that have been developed since day one. So, people and airplanes are my "things" and I'm totally into both of them! I loved every second of my military career, and I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to continue my service as a Federal employee. I enjoy joking and having fun but down to the core, I'm a hard-working guy who loves my family, loves my country, loves my God and loves helping other people succeed. I think we're put on this planet for a variety of different reasons, but helping others is near (if not at the very top) of my list. I play the occasional round of golf too, but that's another story for another day. I'm a Federal talent acquisition consultant at Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) now and in my current role we search for individuals to fill Federal (full-time CIVILIAN) vacancies. These vacancies are almost identical to the ones you'd find on USAJOBS (the primary Federal employment website), except ours have what's called DHA or "Direct Hire Authority".
