I covered Jasper County District Court, county and local law enforcement agencies, as well as Newton city government. I reported local economic development, wrote daily police blotters, breaking news and developed in-depth features and investigative reports.I covered local, state and national politics including the 2012 Iowa Presidential Caucuses. I established sources within many of the major Republican presidential campaigns and members of Iowa’s congressional delegation. I was part of the press pool during an official visit by President Obama, with a focus on renewable energy and job creation.

At the Altoona Herald/Index — part of The Des Moines Register's weeklies group — I developed feature and news stories for the southeastern Polk County, Iowa. I covered the Bondurant City Council and contributed photography.

During the 2006 midterm elections I covered presidential fundraising events, Iowa General Assembly debates and the Iowa gubernatorial campaigns. General assignment reporting including Iowa City city government, local business, community and campus features.
