I joined the Insurance Industry in December 1975 fresh from School – planning to stay 3 weeks I now have had over 40 years experience in this low profile / high value industry.I began my career as part of a large rural office of Royal Insurance in Wagga, NSW. Over the first 7 years I had the opportunity to experience a variety of roles including Claims Officer. The early 1980’s saw Royal & a number of other insurers restructure & downsize their regional offices.In 1982 I moved with Royal Ins. to Canberra to head up the new personal insurance division for the A.C.T. this was a great learning experience with the opportunity to travel to Melbourne on a quarterly basis for week long training and development sessions mixing with and learning from State & Head Office Managers as well as other Regional Managers. I moved to Melbourne in 1986 to be part of the team that developed APIA as a niche insurance brand.In 1987 I transferred from APIA’s Head Office to Royal Insurance’s Head Office taking up the role of Assistant Manager for Underwriting for Australia. In 1988 I returned to APIA in St Kilda Rd but this time in a development role to grow the brand & establish distribution points in northern & eastern Victoria.In 1990 the opportunity arose to move from the city back to the country to manage Royal Insurance’s Underwriting Room in Albury.With the merger of Royal Insurance & Sun Alliance in 1992 this Underwriting Room became a Regional Office servicing Insurance Brokers in Northern Victoria and Southern NSW.In 2003 I joined QBE Insurance’s specialist Farmgate Division as an Authorised Representative.In 2007 QBE sold the Farmgate Division to Elders Insurance and I took the opportunity to purchase an Elders Insurance Franchise to continue to service the General Insurance needs of the QBE Clients who were now transferring to Elders Insurance. The majority of these clients own and operate their own farming businesses.
