On 2015-03-23 I started collaborating on a next-generation product.

I worked on rationalizing JavaScript libraries and enhancing knowledge and techniques. Zoosk laid off 15% of their staff in mid-January 2015 in response to increasing competition, and I asked to be included in this first round.

Fascinating development of a SAAS serving 100m+ users per day using SPA, Mobile, and HP/HA technologies.I was hired to architect and write a mobile browser client. The client is seen by perhaps 100 million end-users every day. At that time, it only worked on desktop browsers and Qualaroo wanted to exceed the competition. Here are the objectives we set and acheived during my tenure:1. Architect and implement a mobile browser implementation of Qualaroo's non-obtrusive overlays and surveys.2. Unify the mobile and desktop clients so that all phones, tablets, and desktops used the same code that adjusted to the form factor. This reduced maintenance cost and improved quality.3. Improve the reliability of our solution by implementing best practice such as TDD, coding conventions, regression tests, lint tests, commit hooks, code review, injection debugging techniques, and staged deployment.4. "Code smart" by preparing the client for new features we expected to need at no or little additional cost.5. Use a client test and build system that had minimal overhead with maximum relevance to code we released.6. Protect ourselves from blatant code plagerism that we were seeing from our competitors. I tackled that by using a "superpack" algorithm I had previously developed. This decreased code size and made reverse engineering much more expensive.7. Improve the "footprint" of our code. Our SAAS product makes only a single HTTP request for a file that delivers everything to the end user - the data, the logic, all presentation assets - in a package about the size of a medium-size JPEG image. The CSS techniques rely on a new architecture that provides maximum flexibility and performance.8. Leave a clean, maintainable, well documented code base that can be managed and extended by one good developer.I feel good about the work I accomplished, and that Qualaroo is poised for continued success in the SAAS market.
